Understand three numbers before placing anything
Spot trading simply swaps one asset for another; price, quantity and total are linked, so filling two of them is enough. The OKX order panel offers several types, but beginners should master limit and market orders before touching conditional ones.
What to prepare before you start
These five things cover almost every delay people run into: A tradeable balance sitting in the right account.
The exact trading pair you intend to use. Awareness that fees are deducted from proceeds.
No duplicate open orders left over from earlier attempts.
Placing your first spot trade
Five steps, in order: Open the trading page, pick the pair and sanity-check bid and ask prices.
Choose a limit order when you want to set your own price and wait. Choose a market order when you want immediate execution at the current book.
Mind the minimum size and available-balance warnings while entering quantity. After filling, review realised price and fees under open and history orders.
Fees, limits and processing times
Numbers change from time to time, always confirm on the official fee page before you commit size: Regular spot accounts commonly start around 0.080% maker and 0.100% taker, with better pricing as OKB balance and volume grow.
Perpetual futures sit near 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker at entry level, plus funding settlements on a fixed schedule. Spot, margin, perpetual and dated futures, plus options, sit at the core of the platform.
Strategy tools such as grid and DCA bots, copy trading, OKX Wallet with its DEX aggregator, and Earn products extend well beyond simple trading. USDT and USDC are available across several networks; matching the network on both ends is what decides whether funds arrive.
For first-time transfers, always send a small test amount before moving the full balance.
The OKX-specific part
The OKX spot page lists multiple order types and shows both available balance and buyable amount. Remember the funding versus trading account split; move funds across before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my limit order not filling
Price has not reached your level yet; adjust the price, switch to market, or simply wait.
Can a market order fill at a bad price
Slippage appears when depth is thin, so split large orders or use limit orders instead.
Where do the funds go after a fill
Straight into the corresponding spot balance, visible on the assets page with no extra transfer.
